AFA Hall of Fame Inductions June 23rd - 24th
Hold June 23rd - 24th 2011 Date
As mentioned previously, to facilitate planning the AFA established an annual recurring time frame for Hall of Fame Inductions of the last week of June. Hold the date of June 23rd & 24th for this year's 31st Annual Hall of Fame Inductions! The site will be Canton, Ohio; stay tuned for venue announcements and program agenda. Nomination ballots will go out in April to all active alumni.

American Football Association Hall of Fame Nomination Prerequisites:
•Individuals cannot self nominate
•Individuals seeking to submit a nomination must be 'members in good standing' (dues paying members) of the AFA's Alumni Assn or an AFA Member League.
•Players are eligible only upon retirement as an active player after 5 years.
•To eliminate confusion with other Hall of Fame organizations (e.g. Pro Football HoF, et. al.), current membership in another hall of fame automatically disqualifies a potential nominee to the AFA's Hall of Fame

American Football Association Hall of Fame Jackets - Now Available !!!
Recently I had the opportunity to chat with the owner of Chicago Knitting Mills regarding design and manufacture of AFA's Hall of Fame jacket. During our conversation I mentioned that I purchased a fraternity sweater from Logan Knitting Mills in 1967 and it still looks brand new. The owner, Bob Sol then responded that he had previously partnered with Logan Knitting Mills but decided to start his current business once Logan Knitting Mills went out of business in the late 1960's.

Needless to say, I immediately gave him permission to be exclusive distributor for design/production of the American Football Association's football jackets because of my personal experience with the quality of his work over the years, including the jackets he did for the Elmhurst Travelers Alumni Club 2 years ago. Interesting how things are connected ......Bob was very pleased to hear how satisfied I was with his previous products!

With that said, we are pleased to announce that AFA Hall of Fame jackets are now available for purchase directly from Chicago Knitting Mills.....and yes, they do have the plus sizes 2X -- 5X! Just send an email to amerfoot@aol.com to obtain an order form.

I would like to express my sincere thanks to Keith Ballard, AFA Hall of Fame Class of 2010 for initiating this project; I can tell you he's really excited about his jacket!

George Martin on Sirius NFL Radio Discusses meetings with NFL and NFLPA leaders

Transcript - On his message to the owners at the Annual Meeting last week:
First of all, the audience was very impressive in and of itself, including the 32 owners as you pointed out as well as the general managers and head coaches. I think it marks a new era in at least the NFL Alumni's development that we were able to put forth an agenda that talked about the increased benefits that we are hoping to gain under my administration. We also talked about the long-term care that was passed earlier this month which we all applauded as alumni, and we also talked about disability benefits and how we can ease the pain and suffering of many of our alumni and make sure that we streamline the process as well. So it was a very positive meeting that was very well received, and on behalf of my members and constituents, we were just pleased with the results. http://campaign.r20.constantcontact.com/render?llr=ifadhsdab&v=001qwhULkbmHDsuZd4HFeRcIDhRYt-0GMD9XKgEBzmUIw37IWR-J6mieYUfrJEJCa9OOTsG8pt6s3kC1bWrR6sfErxxEvMzolotXV5fVnyWJDQ%3D

Kenny Stone Class of '00
I attended a Memorial for Kenny Stone yesterday, Sunday February 20th, at his favorite Bar. His daughter Sherri put it together and most of the people there were originally from the Chicago area. Kenny passed away on January 26th, a victim of Cancer. The memorial was very good and well done. His roommate and several others spoke about Kenny and how much they would all miss him. They had on display pictures of Kenny in football gear and his army uniform. I brought an Elmhurst Taveler team picture, which everybody appreciated. Also on display was his Hall of Fame Plaque and Certificate.

They don't play for money or to the roar of big crowds.
But for a growing number of military gridiron gladiators, the rise of semi-pro football is offering a second chance to play the game they love. And maybe, just maybe, some will have a shot at real glory. Meanwhile, old interservice rivalries are finding new life in unlikely places.
